2nd German Scottie-Weekend 2009

On July 25/26, 2009, the 2nd German Scottie Weekend took place.

Weekend Teilnehmer

This year, there were even guests from The Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Norway (!!)  - truly international!

The location in and around the Festhalle in Battenberg (Eder) presented itself as a wonderful and spacious show site with nicely decorated areas for the events and room for the sales stands and flea market. As an advantage, everybody could shelter from rain showers in the building - particularly needed on Saturday from time to time.

Everything was nicely arranged and decorated - thanks to the tireless efforts of Marianne und Werner Kludaß.

As in previous years, the program addressed equally Scottie fanciers and owners as well as exhibitors and breeders.

Saturday was packed with games, sports and fun events. Agility (presented and instructed by Otto Lott) and the fun course have been a tradition in previous years. But for the first time this year, a Scottie race challenged both Scotties and their owners to maximum -  and there was also a lot of fun when e.g. one dog didn’t even want to cross the starting line.

In the afternoon, our judge from the US gave a grooming session where we could see a number of interesting and new techniques.

The sales stands and the flea market with new and old Scottie stuff were very busy, and the first edition of the Scottie Journal went really fast.

After dinner with roughly 50 (!!) guests, Cindy Cooke gave a presentation on the development of the breed standard from 1880 until today providing a comprehensive insight to the history of our breed.

On Sunday, the Scottie Special show took place. 43 Scotties were entered, including 6 Scottie lovers with no previous ring experience in Newcomer class.

Mrs. Cindy Cooke (Kennel Anstamm) from the US served as our judge. Since 1978, Cindy is, together with Miriam (“Buffy”) Stamm, the co-owner of the famous Anstamm kennel that was established in the 50ies, and she breeds and exhibits Scotties very successfully since then.

At the end of the day, the winners of the day were selected with great applause, and they went home with nice price presents - this year as a tribute to the “American show” hand-signed paintings by Marion Needham Krupp / USA.

As this years Scottie Weekend had an even better participation than last year’s, we are encouraged in our approach to make this a standing event in the Scottie scene in Germany, also in the future.
